Problem

Most typing platforms (e.g., Monkeytype, TypeRacer) optimize strictly for sterile speed tests, lacking modern esports mechanics, real-time multiplayer depth, RPG progression, and robust anti-cheat validation.

Keyboard Olympics was engineered to transform speed typing into a game-first competitive esport — combining zero-latency keystroke telemetry, real-time WebSocket racing, procedural acoustic mechanical switch synthesis, tournament bracket trees, and server-side Inter-Keystroke Interval Variance (IKIV) heuristics.

Role and Constraints

Architected and implemented the end-to-end platform: Next.js 15 App Router architecture, procedural Web Audio acoustic synthesizer, Ably WebSocket channels, and Mongoose database design.

Engineered server-side anti-cheat telemetry verification and real-time single-elimination tournament bracket engines handling automated matchmaking and coin payouts.

Approach & Architecture

Engineered 14 specialized typing disciplines spanning Standard (Classic, Speed Burst, Code Sprint), Arcade (Reverse, Emoji Blitz, Weird Sentences, Sudden Death, Chaos), and Mastery (Zen Flow, Echo Memory blackout, N-Gram drills, Matrix Crunch).

Implemented dual real-time multiplayer racing using Ably WebSockets with presence tracking, synchronized 3-2-1 countdown lockstep, floating opponent carets, and AI bot competitors calibrated from 40 to 120 WPM.

Synthesized 8 hardware-accurate mechanical switch acoustic profiles (Creamy Thock, Clicky Blue, Topre, 8-Bit Synth, Alps Clack, Bubble Pop) using procedural Web Audio API nodes with pitch and volume variance.

Built a complete single-elimination tournament engine supporting 4 to 64 competitors, head-to-head match duels, automated round advancement, and prize pool coin distributions.
